Board of Directors

Angeles Leira

Graduated from Estudio College in Madrid, Spain, and earned a Masters in Architecture from UC Berkeley. A La Jolla resident since 1958, she worked for the City of San Diego for thirty-five years, participating in preservation projects including Spreckels Theater, Gaslamp Quarter and historic districts throughout San Diego. (2010-2013; last term)

Courtney Ann Coyle

An attorney representing American Indian tribal governments and other entities in initiatives to protect and preserve heritage resources, has served on the boards of numerous San Diego cultural institutions. She is a graduate of The Peddie School, Washington and Lee University, and University of San Diego School of Law.  (2010-2013; first term)

Constance Mullin Branscomb

A La Jollan since 1964, has an AB in biochemistry from Radcliffe College and an MS in biology from SD State University.  She taught biology at high school and university levels, and was an editorial assistant for Biopolymers. In 1985 she founded and directed Classical Performing Artists Management. (2010-2013; last term)

Christina Freundt

A third generation Southern California native and a pilot. She and her husband recently restored their 1925 Barber Tract home where she raises their two young daughters. She is passionate about architectural preservation and historic education. (2009-2012; first term)

Clarke Herring

Attended Stanford University and University of Arizona and received a degree in chemistry. Though he taught chemistry in the classroom, history has always been one of Clarke’s passions. Clarke owned and operated a management firm in La Jolla for thirty-seven years. He is an active volunteer with the San Diego Historical Center. (2010-2013; first term)

Douglas Dawson

A graduate of Whittier College and the University of Washington, is a retired bank executive and is Executive Director of the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation. He serves on the boards of Friends of the La Jolla Library, Ronald McDonald House, La Jolla Playhouse, and San Diego Zoological Society Foundation. (2011-2014; first term)

David Goldberg

A native La Jollan, earned a BS in Political Economics from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago. He also serves on the board of Save Our Heritage Organisation and served on the board of the Torrey Pines Association. (2010-2013; first term)

Dave Reynolds

Holds a degree in Business Administration from Claremont Men’s College. He spent nearly forty years in banking, mostly as vice presidents with Bank of America and Union Bank. La Jolla had been a life-long second home to Dave. He and wife Marlene settled here full-time in 1984. (2009-2012; last term)

Donald Yeckel - Treasurer

A graduate of Notre Dame, was an officer in the US Marine Corps before moving to La Jolla with his family in 1972. Retiring in 1999 as vice president for Merrill Lynch, Don is the founding trustee of the Ray Thomas Edwards Foundation and active with Friends of Balboa Park and Rotary Club. (2010-2013; last term)

Jennifer Harter

Born in Indianapolis, earned her BA in Business Administration from Hanover College and a minor in mathematics. She is Vice President and Branch Manager of City National Bank in La Jolla. Jennifer is active with the Foundation for Women and the American Heart Association. (2011-2014; first term)

Judith Haxo - Secretary

Graduated from Wellesley College with a BA in international relations and an MA from Columbia University with a major in history. She came to La Jolla in 1959 to teach history at The Bishop’s School.  She returned to teaching history and journalism at The Bishop’s School in 1974 and retired in 2000. (2011-2012; first term)

Leslie Davis

Has been a La Jolla resident for nearly twenty years. Along with her meticulously restored 1923 Bird Rock home, she owns a historic house in New Orleans. A graduate of Point Loma College, she has owned her own communications firm, Davis Marketing, since 1993. (2011-2014; last term)

Lydia McNeil

A graphic designer and community volunteer. She is past president of Las Patronas and currently president of the San Diego chapter of National Charity League, on the board at The Gillispie School, and has chaired numerous events, fundraisers, and committees for various local groups. (2011-2014; first term)

Nettie Keck

An educational consultant with a BA in English from Kenyon College and MA in Elementary Education from Columbia University. She was a teacher for seven years and chaired the annual giving campaign and gala at her children’s school. She and her family have lived in La Jolla since 2006, currently restoring their 1930 English Cotswald home. (2011-2014; first term)

Nell Waltz - Vice President

Received her BA and MA from Vanderbilt University and was Development Associate at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla. She is on the board of the San Diego Historical Society and has served on the boards of the San Diego Museum of Art, La Jolla Music Society, Las Patronas and Rady Children’s Hospital. (2009-2012; first term)

Pat Dahlberg

Earned her BA in history from the University of Tennessee and studied Mass Communications at San Diego State University. Most of Pat’s career has involved editing and journalism (including the La Jolla Light). Pat was Executive Director of the La Jolla Historical Society from 2003-2006. (2009-2012; last term)

Paul Sanchez

Has been a global business and management consultant for over thirty years, his career taking him on assignments with major companies around the world. He received a BS in Psychology from Loyola University and an MS in Organizational Behavior from Boston University. Paul is also a member of the Scripps Mercy Foundation Board. (2011-2014; first term)

Suzi Bustamante

Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at Scripps Health in La Jolla. A graduate of Northern Arizona University, she has been in the healthcare industry for nearly two decades, specializing in public relations, advertising, community education programming, and strategic planning. (2010-2013; first term)

Siavash Khajezadeh

A La Jolla-based architect and principal of Design Lead LLP. With more than thirty years of experience, he specializes in high-end private residencies, multi-family structures, and commercial and retail spaces. He earned a BS degree in architecture and MS degree in urban planning from National University of Iran. (2011-2014; first term)

Tom Grunow - President

The owner of Grunow Construction, specializing in historic preservation, including work on Heritage Place, St. James by-the-Sea church and Wisteria Cottage. A native of Connecticut, Tom graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Civil Engineering & Construction Management. He has lived in La Jolla for 22 years. (2009-2012; second term)
