The Last West Coast Gliderport.

The La Jolla Historical Society is actively preserving the history of our Torrey Pines Gliderport. San Diego's Charles Lindbergh set a regional glider distance record in 1930 from Mount Soledad. He was the first to soar over Torrey Pines in February, 1930.

Now Torrey Pines is the only coastal gliderport remaining of the dozens that dotted the California coastline in the 30's and 40's. Its rich history has so far gone undocumented, though not unrecognized. The gliderport is a National Soaring Landmark listed on the local, state and National Register of Historic Places.

We're working on funding for a feature-length documentary to be completed later in 2010, depending on funding.
