Visitor Services Associate
The mission of the La Jolla Historical Society is to inspire and empower the community to make La Jolla's diverse past a relevant part of contemporary life, and to serve as a thriving community resource and gathering place where residents and visitors explore history, art, ideas and culture. As the Society has grown over the past decade, we are poised to expand our professional staff, and are recruiting for a position that directly serves community residents and cultural tourists who visit the Wisteria Cottage galleries.
Job Type: Part-Time, 20 hours a week plus occasional evenings
and weekends; normal work week is 5 hours per day,11:30am - 4:30pm, Wednesday
through Saturday. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree (BA or
BS). Compensation: $16.50/hr.
Staffs and oversees the Wisteria Cottage gallery admissions desk, supervises volunteer docents and point of sale system. Manages the desk with a focus on customer service, ensuring visitors are attended to professionally and promptly. Manages collection and processing of sales receipts. Coordinates the support of volunteer gallery docents. Advises management on operational issues and opportunities to improve visitor experience and amenities. Promotes membership and publication sales and participation in education programs and community events. Communicates with visitors to ensure a positive Museum experience and resolve any concerns and issues to their satisfaction and the Museum's. Other duties as assigned, which may be administrative, operational, or in support of programs or special events. Reports to the Deputy Director.
Bachelor's degree and experience in customer service/visitor services; preferably in museums, the cultural sector, or tourism guest relations environment.
Experience in customer service and volunteer programs; knowledge of museum membership programs; knowledge of La Jolla history.
